A bookkeeper! Yes, Laura, I think our OCD tendencies are beneficial for our work but not so much for our personal lives, don't you?
It's a difficult balance. To be good at our jobs, we must be at least a little OCD. But, it's difficult, if not almost impossible, to keep that perfectionism from creeping into our personal lives where it complicates our relationships with others, things, and ourselves.
This month I vowed to clean out boxes of "financial records" I have - some dating back 12 years. As I pawed through the monthly folders of receipts and bank statements, I was appalled at how much crap I kept - like, every grocery or retail receipt for AN ENTIRE YEAR, copies of every billed paid, copies of movie ticket stubs, and gas receipts. Why?? Sure, keep receipts for those items that are tax deductible, but why all the others??
Thankfully, I don't do that anymore. My year-end financial records now fit in one small manila envelope rather than crowded in files that stuff a banker's box!
