Admittedly, I struggled about including her. I did because she was brave, outspoken, relentless, and in spite of some of her deplorable personal beliefs, she was a main player in the fight for women’s rights and was a champion for women’s reproductive health. There are also others on the list who had motives, actions, and beliefs I do not condone, but I believe we must look at their beliefs in their historical context, as well as realize that our heroes are far from perfect. Thank you for pointing out her flaws. I think it is important to always be aware that those we admire are complex human beings, never perfect, always working within the limits of their personal experiences and their place and time in history.
