Amen, sister! My neighborhood runs along a street that connects two major roads in my city; hundreds use it as a shortcut, speeding as though it’s a raceway, risking the lives of all who walk and bike or try to exit their driveways and parking lots. Food, trash, beer cans, and liquor bottles are thrown from windows. If one dares say anything, as my husband and I have, threats are made, vulgar language is used, and middle fingers are extended. Common decency, respect for others, and manners have gone the way of 8-track tapes — relics of a different society, a better society.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
