The thing with childhood trauma is that no matter what is was or how it compares to others’ experience, it is our trauma and therefore worthy of our feelings and our willingness to hide from it, confront it, or share it.
Trauma is not a contest. It is a burden that may be greater for some than others, it may lessen with time or worsen with time, it may evaporate when the one who caused the trauma is gone or losing them may make it worse because there is no chance of it ever getting better, it may be the last thing we think about when we die or it might be what kills us or it might be what helps us to live.
