Anne, my husband stopped writing on Medium for that very same reason. He was disheartened that only a fraction of his followers actually read his work. Since English is not his first language, heis, writing was laborious. He spent a great deal of time making sure of his grammar and sentence structure, having me review, and then making edits. To have only a small, but very loyal, percentage of his followers read his offerings was discouraging. And, he wasn't even a member of the Partner Program, so his disappointment had nothing to do with money. He decided it wasn't worth the effort if followers weren't readers. Sad because several people loved his stories and looked forward to them.
