As a non-Hispanic in a very Hispanic family, I have seen this sort of child-parenting-parent many times, Nathan, but never have I seen an article about it on Medium. You describe the experience so well and so beautifully, using compassion and realism. Parenting an immigrant parent is much like the role reversal we see in later life, as parents lose physical and cognitive strength, and children must become parents to their parents. These twists and turns in long-held relationships are so challenging.
Your mother and father are fortunate to have such a loving and patient son.
