Beth, you make so many good points. We often do spend more time documenting than experiencing. But, being old enough to have lived before digital photography, much, if not most of my life, has little documentation. Entire decades without a photo or a decent enough picture to know who’s in it and what’s happening. Grainy, faded pictures that tell no story.
The secret is to balance photography and participation. Digital photography is a treasure but so is living. And, let’s not forget all those people who have died taking selfies and other shots in precarious places!
