Chandrani, hibiscuses are abundant here in Florida and usually grow without interference or help, but this winter we had two deep freezes that nearly killed my three garden hibiscuses. In the spring, I cut them back to the ground and kept them watered. Slowly, very slowly, they are regenerating from their roots.

You are correct about hibiscus being slow to recover. All my other freeze-damaged plants are tall and hardy, but the three hibiscus plants only have leaves a few inches off the ground. They will continue to improve over the summer but won't reach the height they had last year. If we have hard freezes next winter, they may not come back again.

As you wrote, each plant has a personality, and we must get to know our plants and nurture their characters.
