Depression has been my companion on and off for most of my life. He’s been on an extended vacation for more than ten years now but every once in a while he takes a break from the good life to stop by and check on me, to see if I miss him.

Sometimes I do.

Weird, huh? Depression is like the bad boyfriend — you know he’s trouble, you know he’ll wreck you, but he’s familiar like an old blanket. Sometimes bad familiar is better than good unknown.

Nestle in where you can, Erika. Hold tight to the ones who love you especially that guy of yours. Tell depression you don’t need him now and he can take a long vacation. Then, wave goodbye. Maybe, just maybe, he won’t return.

Hopeful hugs from Florida.
