Excellent article, Jake. I have friends and co-workers whom I consider liberal and open minded, but they are reluctant to discuss, read about, or attempt to understand gender issues. They were all pro same-sex marriage but squirm when hearing or reading about transgender people and scoff at individuals choosing their preferred pronouns. One, whom I consider to be very liberal, thinks the show I Am Jazz shouldn’t be allowed on TV! Gender sexism is rampant even among those who see themselves as liberal and forward-thinking.
