Excellent essay, Anne, and great food for thought (pun intended!).

There is so much food insecurity during this pandemic that it highlights the lack of food gardens in our society. If any good comes out of this horrible year, maybe more personal, neighborhood, and community gardens will be started.

I don't grow any food, other than one blackberry bush that my granddaughter insisted I plant and which bears about a dozen berries each year, most of which are consumed by the squirrels.

My garden space is limited. I know nothing about growing vegetables or fruits and with just two of us, purchases at farmer's markets and stores are more reasonable and so much easier. Besides, fighting insects and other plant pests in Florida is very time-consuming!

I don't know that there is such a thing as an intellectual life. Perhaps, a curious life is a better goal. If you remain curious, you will always be learning.
