Second, I LOVE crows. We have several that hang around and share the peanuts we put out for the squirrels. The king of those crows is Carlitos. He is highly intelligent and a very handsome bird. It's obvious that he is the boss of his gang, which consists of his mate and another male and his mate, and sometimes another female.

This summer we've been plagued by hawks and foxes. I worry that they will nab one of our regular squirrels or ducks. My mind is at ease when the crows are around, though. The crows give loud, raucous warnings when they spot predators, allowing the squirrels and ducks to run for safety. The crows will also chase away a hawk.
