Gardening and the other repetitive tasks you mention, Deborah, are meditative by their very nature. Years ago, I had a friend who uprooted her children and moved to another state to be married to a man whom, for all appearances, was a prince. However, he was a wolf in sheep's clothing and she trembled in fear for two years until she and her children slunk away in the night. She continued to live in terror that he would find her. Her meditative task was dish-washing. In spite of having a top-of-the-line dishwasher in her new apartment, she washed every dish and pot and glass and plate by hand. It was her meditation and she looked forward to it each day.
Although I garden, dusting is my meditative task. I like touching and rearranging beloved items. Holding them appreciatively in my hands as I sweep the dusting cloth over them.
Thank you for sharing this and reminding us that the repetition of an enjoyed task is the mind's repose.
