As much as I understand your concern about captive animals, I also know that responsible parks and zoos have helped to keep endangered animals in existence. Many species would not still be around - in domestic settings or in the wild - if not for the breeding programs at certain zoos and parks.

With that said, it is very important to research a facility you plan to attend to assure that it is humane, responsible, and involved in programs to keep endangered animals alive in the wild. And, to assure that they are not capturing the animals for display.

Most animals in ethical facilities were bred there on in another such facility. Capturing endangered animals to put them on display is neither ethical or humane and, often, illegal.
