Ha! Isn't that typical?

I grew up on a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. My father built and repaired boats and was a crabber and oysterman. He fished for pleasure. I learned all about boats and could navigate pretty well. I took one of our boats across our river to walk to town when I was bored during the summers. But, I never learned to fish and never wanted to.

All the kids my age liked to water ski. A few had boats. I hated skiing. Don't like moving fast with nothing around me. Plus, our water was full of jellyfish, and I didn't appreciate falling in a crowd of them and being stung unmercifully. So, I became the boat captain, which I enjoyed. I pulled the skiers, who were all fighting over ski time. Meanwhile, I sat in the boat safe from the jellyfish!
