Hiss? Really? I've never known a squirrel to hiss! Ours make a barking sound to communicate with one another. But, it's not a loud bark like a dog's. Softer. They make tiny squeal noises with us. Very slight. I think it's a sound of excitement or anticipation of being fed peanuts.
