Holly Tree

In Response to July 11th One Line Poem Prompt from Kathy Jacobs
and Shirley Jimenez

I am a holly tree,
Planted long ago —
Nourished by
A family’s pets
Resting in peace
Around my roots —
Bear, the first in ‘84,
Jessie, the last in ’05,
Two dozen in between —
Feeding me with
Skin and bones
From lives well lived
With a family
No longer here —
All are gone but me —
I live on.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
