Honestly, if that cat came face-to-face with a squirrel, he’d run in the opposite direction! He is a very loving and sweet kitty who avoids excitement and adventure. Watching wildlife from the safety of a screened porch is just his style.
Syau has a strange relationship with squirrels. She is obsessed with them. On our walks, she couches low and stalks them, making a mad dash as they climb a tree or disappear in bushes. But, she would never hurt one. In fact, we saw a squirrel on one of our walks and couldn’t see it was injured. Syau did her normal stalking, chasing routine but when the squirrel could only drag itself a few feet, she stopped and showed the most amazing concern for the poor critter. She approached slowly, whining in a very sad, worried way. She never tried to hurt him. Postscript: I caught the squirrel and took him to my vet. He’d been hit by a car and his rear legs were paralyzed. The vet was able to restore some of his mobility but not enough to return him to the wild. He is now in a wildlife sanctuary.
