I am all for kids getting involved with meal preparation but you can’t expect a child as young as my granddaughter to suddenly become an accomplished chef. Someone needs to commit some time to teaching and demonstrating food preparation. To insist a child cannot be vegetarian until mastering the kitchen is cruel and discriminatory especially if meat-eating children are not forced to cook like a vegetarian sibling. There has to be parental cooperation in spite of the additional time and work. Fortunately, cooking vegetarian is much easier and usually speedier than cooking meat-based meals. It is simpler than many assume. A little time and effort will result in a learning experience for all, as well as some extra help in the kitchen, and a happier child.
