I can understand that. We downsized this year and no longer have a dedicated dining room. Our new house has a combined living and dining space, allowing the owner to choose how much space is allocated for each. That flexibility is great.

However, if you have such a charming dining room now, especially one that houses so much family history, it begs to be used and appreciated. Just my opinion, of course, but I think even a person living alone should honor a meal by sitting at a table and focusing on the pleasure of the food, and if more than one diner, the pleasure of one another’s company. Just a thought.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
