I definitely identify with this, Carolyn! I wrote in the first couple of years of my previous marriage — mainly, love poems to my husband to be given as gifts because we had no money for presents. Then, the writing stopped as I struggled to do all that had to be done and be what I needed to be for everyone else.

Writing didn’t return after I left him — not at first. Twelve years needed to pass — 12 years of a new relationship, 10 years of grandmotherhood — then, writing moved in, taking over a cozy nook and inviting me to cuddle.

Thank you greatly for allowing me to publish this declaration of independence and creativity on Weeds & Wildflowers ♥

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
