I doubt many Americans will take the vaccine. And, I have to admit, the side effects are scary. I will definitely read up on them. One article I saw recently suggested taking a day or two off work when you get the vaccine. If that is the case, very few working people will get the shot.
I think all the vaccines that are in testing stages require 2 shots. I don't think people will remember to go back for the second or if they have side effects with the first, they won't want to risk another.
Americans are stupid. Just as they think the government (local, state, or federal) is taking away their "freedom" by requiring the wearing of masks, they will think the same about the vaccine. If a governmental agency recommends the vaccine, many Americans will never get it.
Our federal government has no mask mandate and neither does the State of Florida, but the county where I live does. People have actually moved to an adjoining county rather than obey the mask ordinance here.
THEY MOVED RATHER THAN WEAR A MASK!
Some, who have no choice but to stay here, shop in other counties where masks aren't required in public places, such as stores. Grocery stores in neighboring counties experienced a large increase in shoppers due to the ones who drive many miles to avoid wearing a mask in our county.
My nephew, his wife, and a large group of friends flew to Las Vegas earlier this month to celebrate his birthday. They were on planes, stayed in a resort, went out to restaurants, and gambled in casinos. All these activities are listed as high risk for the virus. But, they did them anyway. His mother stopped talking to me when I said that such a trip with that many people is dangerous, irresponsible, and inconsiderate. Oh, well.
Sorry, I don't have much hope that the vaccine will provide any sort of quick relief from Covid.
