I hadn’t read your story about your husband, Joan. How sweet it is! What a love story you two had and a very interesting life together! I understand about having an older spouse — my husband is 15 years my senior. Fortunately, he has good genes — his mother lived to be 95!
We are definitely familiar with Midtown but more the west side than east. A few years back we wanted to do something different and since my husband knows less about the east side, we took a walking tour of Midtown East. And, later explored the East Village, staying the night in a funky, boutique hotel there.
Until my husband came into my life 14 years ago, I’d never been to NYC — just passed by on trips to other places. For years, we stayed with his mother in Elizabeth, NJ, going to Manhattan by train each morning. Then she moved to South Florida, and has since passed, so we now stay with his daughter and her husband. Originally they were in Madison, now in W Orange.
My husband’s son got his BA from Rutgers and then his Master’s at NYU. Like you, he loved living in the Village while attending NYU.
Ah, writing with you has made me miss Manhattan so much! I am so sad we won’t be able to go this year.
I am excited to see what you post for the challenge!
