I have a client like that. He has cornered a huge share of his market in our area. He pays well, provides above-average benefits, is generous with bonuses, and has a great relationship with his employees, most of whom have worked there (he inherited the business from his much older, now deceased partner) for 30+ years. He is sympathetic to their personal problems and generously helps them through unexpected, stressful situations.

He once said to me. “An employee stressed at home is stressed and distracted at work. If I can ease the stress at home, both the employee, my business, and I benefit. I always look for the win/win in every situation.”

Consequently, his employees would walk through fire for him.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
