I see much of myself in this, Kathy, and enjoyed each word. You were one of my first cheerleaders on Medium. Your prompts inspired my creativity; your comments encouraged it. I believed we have much in common and that helped me feel at home on this forum. I feared Medium and all its outstanding contributers might shrink my desire to write rather than expand it as I compared myself to others who may be more talented or more experienced at writing. Finding someone here with whom I could relate was comforting as well as encouraging.

Then others appeared — like Jim Reeves, Jack Herlocker, Sherry Kappel, and Susan Christiana, to name just a few — people who enjoy writing without needing to be the next great author and who cheer on others searching for their voices in poetry and prose.

I found a community here that welcomed me and gave me a platform to delve into an interest neglected for many years. You, Kathy Jacobs, are one of the community leaders. I am proud to be a resident here with you.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
