I told my husband and he is still amazed. He’s from Argentina and meat empanadas (veggie ones are becoming more popular) are one of the national foods. We have friends from nearly every country in Latin America and haven’t heard of prune empanadas. In Argentina and other Hispanic countries there are several kinds of guava pastries and some versions slightly resemble an empanada but the dough is much lighter. In Argentina, they make guava croissants but call them media lunas (half moons). Of course, being croissants, the pastry is very light and flaky due to the butter used in the dough.

What are the nationalities of the Hispanics in your area? Are these prune empanadas made with a heavy dough or are they light and flaky? Is the dough sweet? Empanada dough definitely is not sweet.
