I was recently in a Medium discussion about relaxing and vacations and how we Americans are lucky if we are given even a paltry two weeks off a year by our benevolent employers, forcing us to cram so much in those two weeks, taken separately or together, that we need a vacation after our vacation to rest up. Looks like that was your experience on your fabulous vacation, James!

My husband and I go to NJ and NYC by train most years. Ten day trip. We arrive home about 8:30 on a Sunday morning, I shower, unpack, and go to work. Ten hours of catch-up work then home to collapse before starting again Monday morning. It gets harder as I get older but it’s our only true vacation each year.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
