I would watch that show! In fact, I believe it was Oprah who produced a “reality” show called Secret Millionaire in which a wealthy person would live for a week or two or a month, don’t remember which, in a depressed area and work for charities. In the end, of course, they were deeply transformed and started foundations or donated thousands to the places where they worked. Of course, the wealthy participants were rich but usually not billionaires. The stories were a little much to believe, and I am always suspect of such people having their changes of heart and new found philanthropy broadcast to the world. Still the show had a more admirable premise than most reality rubbish.

I am appalled — even amongst my own clients, some of who qualify as low-level millionaires, how little they give to charitable organizations and how adamantly opposed many are to any government spending for social services, even those for mental health, education, and disaster recovery.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
