John, this is such a lovely ode to your grandchildren - truly touched my heart.

My grandchildren and daughter lived with me for 6 years until she remarried and moved far away. I helped co-parent those children until they were 11 and 9. To have them so far away is almost too much to bear. I am buoyed by the fact that they appear to be doing so well. Having a traditional family situation and financial security has given them so many opportunities they didn't have before.

We do what we can, right? Then, we toss them in the waves knowing we taught them how to swim.
