johnronand, my example of the woman whose son was diagnosed with mental illness was only to illustrate how people don’t recognize or care about problems until the problem(s) affect them directly. Really had nothing to do with the transportation issue but more to do with the “I don’t care if it doesn’t affect me” discussion.
And you are completely right about slow progress being the bug of democracy. But, there are ways to speed it up if people will work together.
Yes, I know that my words are often dust in the wind and sometimes I can’t bear to get into another political discussion because it seems so hopeless. Other times, I feel I must or I can’t live with myself.
Personally, I am all for moving more toward a social democracy. I think pure democracy never lived up to its potential and has become obsolete in today’s world.
