Just give it a go! For traditional haiku, 5/7/5 syllable structure in 3 lines. Or, go American if you want less structure.

There also is another Japanese poetry form called a tanka, very similar to a haiku but slightly longer. 5 lines is this structure 5/7/5/7/7.
