We have Meetup here, too. I never thought of anyone using it as a quasi-dating site though! I haven't attended a Meetup but now many people who have (pre-Covid, of course). Some made good friends in the groups. I think that Meetup may be your best bet. It's not a horn-dog fest. Normal people with similar interests.
