I lean sad while you stand straight and satisfied
my lean isn’t voluntary or arbitrary
it’s the result of a stormy life and
not having a strong trunk
but my roots are deep and hold true
or I would have toppled long ago

I lean sad and that you don’t understand
for sadness is a foreign country to you
you look up while I look down
you see the expansive sky while
I see the tiniest toadstool

I lean sad and that’s not bad or wrong

It just is

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
