Let me clarify and give you some relief, Jack, the youth and good looks advantage applies almost exclusively to female employees. Older, male employees, attractive or not, are usually viewed as experienced and wise. Although the same can be said of the older female employees, it almost never is. Most over 55 female employees I know or have known feel marginalized, overlooked, discounted. Some who planned to work well past 65 are now thinking of retirement because they feel so unimportant although that is definitely not true. They are hardworking, dedicated, intelligent, experienced, and valuable to the offices where they work but that’s not how they are treated. Most don’t realize the salary inequities or they would already be gone.
