Mark, you brought back so many memories! As a teen, I eagerly for the sun to set because I could pick up so many radio stations from far away. During the day, in our rural area, selection was limited. Laying on my bed, twirling the dial to see what faraway station was the clearest that night. I knew which stations were best according to the weather, especially cloud cover. I often picked up stations hundreds of miles away.
I remember listening to the Top 40 countdown every Sunday until the mid-90’s, calling in song requests, participating in radio contests requiring fast dialing and a lot of luck. A popular local station in the 90’s caused overloads at AT&T due to the number of callers trying to win $100. I never got the 100-bucks win but did score an album and several t-shirts.
Fun read. Enjoyed the visit to memory lane!
