Maybe the divorce rate is so high because couples get comfy with each other and stop courting. Courting should rank with manners as niceties that should continue long after the marriage vows are spoken.

Now, the cardinals, I have seen our male feed his mate. And, I really believe the pair in our backyard are the same ones we've seen before. This will be their third year. The male has an odd discoloration on one wing that I haven't seen on other cardinals.

Lastly, I thoroughly enjoyed your "conversation" Jack and really like the aside about squirrels being cute. Of course, I was right ;)
