Memories have been a topic swirling in my head these days, Jack, as I peruse Facebook photos of a friend and former neighbor who passed on Tuesday, as I held the hand of a friend in the hospital last night after she was informed of her husband’s kidney failure and numbered days, and as I watch my 16-year-old dog struggle to rise and recline. My mind is traveling back to happier moments and reluctantly realizing that these moments of letting go of all but the memories are becoming more frequent with the passing years.

May your photos give your mom a chance to relive her happiest moments even if the memories are fuzzy and distant, perhaps feeling as though they belong to someone else. For aren’t memories all we can claim as truly ours?
