My first husband was able to pass as a handyman. He could fix/install/uninstall most appliances. And he was a licensed electrician by trade. He could also build things - COULD. Basically, he was lazy and didn't do more than what had to be done.

Ben, my wonderful partner now, can cook but his idea of "fixing" something involves a hammer and duck tape. He's hopeless about following those convoluted instructions that arrive in packages. I am not much better. Fortunately, I have a friend who grew up on a farm, working side-by-side with her father, and she can fix most things. But, for big appliances I call the experts. Give me your number, Robert, in case I need to call you!!

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
