My husband wants to know where you lived in Jersey and are you in downtown, uptown or midtown now?

As much as I love Manhattan, I can’t imagine living there especially if I had to go to work each day, although everyone says that living and working in NYC isn’t that bad and certainly a lot better than having to commute from another borough or state. My stepson, who lives in Chelsea, walks to work. My poor stepdaughter has a very stressful commute involving driving in heavy traffic to the train station, a 40 minute train ride, then a rush to her subway train for another 10 or 15 minute ride, and then 5 minute walk to her building. Going home is worse. Trains are often canceled. Sometimes she stands for most of the ride. When we stay with her, our daily trips with no schedule to keep are stressful enough! In fact, last year we started taking the bus because it was easier. Still, it seems we are always rushing on subways to get the bus home, standing in line for 30+minutes to board. Especially exhausting after a day walking around Manhattan and climbing up and down dozens of subway steps!

Of course, the weather would keep me from living there. I have been in the Deep South too long. I think my area of Florida gets too cold! Even my husband, who has lived here full-time for 14 years, can’t take the cold anymore. In fact, he has become much more intolerant of the cold than I am. Let the temperature dip below 75 and he wears a light jacket! Below 70, a heavy jacket and scarf! I’m okay until we go south of 50.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
