Oh, how I understand this, Robert. I began on Medium writing longer stories that no one read and graduated to short pieces and poetry, which get much more attention. Unfortunately, with the new Partner Program compensation equations, longer pieces have longer reading times so earn more. So, either way, unless you write tech or motivational pieces, you are screwed as far as compensation is concerned. My monthly PP payment dropped 90% after the changes last fall.

So, like you, I write because I love it and it's fun. But, it's hard to write anything very intellectual that garners attention. Blame Twitter and Facebook. Minds have been shrunk by sound bites and tweets.
