Oh, Mia, living in Florida, I know that any storm that hits somewhere else could hit here. I remember Katrina vividly. Stayed glued to the Weather Channel for hours. Despite knowing no one in that area, I was heartbroken for everyone in that area.

All of us in hurricane-prone locales know that a jog to the east or west could bring a storm knocking on our door.

My worst was Irma and, for us, she really wasn't that bad - certainly nothing like what Louisiana experienced with Katrina. Still, we were terrified as the winds and rains slammed our home all night long.

I lived in Florida for more than 30 years without experiencing a hurricane but have felt the effects of 4 in less than 13 years. And, I fear, all of us in these areas will see more storms more often.

Thank you for sharing this difficult memory with us.

BTW, your dog is precious!
