One of my favorite pieces of yours, Jim. I’ve known men, or I should say boys because most were too young to qualify as men, who spent so much energy and time trying to live up to an unrealistic, unhealthy, and unnecessary ideal of masculinity. I am speaking of both hetero and gay men. Many hetero men are not what society calls manly. Some gay men hide who they are behind bravado and machismo that feels as foreign to them as it does to me. When will we as a society and culture let people be who they truly are without condemnation and ridicule? Obviously, a rhetorical question. Certainly and sadly not in my lifetime.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
