In Hopes and Dreams for Our Future
Summer ends with the weariness
Of workers worked too hard in
Early mornings and late nights.
Hours in the glaring, golden sun,
Cultivating and harvesting,
Preparing earth for next year.
Autumn, the evening of the year —
A softening, withdrawing,
A time of reflection and introspection.
The farmer and his land decelerate,
The speed of life slows
The light of life softens.
Front porches, not fields and barns —
Rockers, not tractors and trucks
Later mornings, earlier evenings.
This is the dance of life —
Farmer and land
Partners in eternity
