So glad to meet you, Klara! Here are links to 3 stories I wrote about my illnesses. The first story is before I got sick enough to be hospitalized. At the time of that story, I was doing much better. The second piece is about food poisoning and my hospitalization and aftermath. The third has references to my gallbladder surgery in November, although it's actually a photography piece.

I was shocked at the medical failures in my case. There really is more to tell about my ER stay but it was so traumatic and mortifying, I haven't been able to write about it. Maybe one day . . .

Be a strong advocate for your daughter. It's amazing how uncaring medical professionals can be. Yes, I know they are overworked and stressed to the limit, but I've seen first hand how they dismiss things like diarrhea, vomiting, and weight loss. If it weren't for a neighbor who is a retired nurse and who insisted we call 911 to get me to the hospital as soon as possible, I may have died. My potassium and blood pressure with dangerously low, putting me at risk for a heart attack or stroke. But the scariest thing is that I'd been a free-standing emergency clinic twice and had seen my primary care physician 3 times during the month that I lost 35 pounds! FYI, I originally thought I lost 30 pounds but reviewing my medical records with the surgeon who removed my gallbladder, I discovered it was 35! It took me six months to gain back 7 pounds.

I am wishing the best for your daughter and I look forward to getting to know you better.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
