So, Robert, I never heard of the Raffles before your story. Nor did I know the Singapore Sling was, indeed, created in Singapore. Still, your story wrapped me in the sounds, scents, and tastes of that night in Singapore in 1933.
So many sensations packed in one story. Well done.
May I ask if it's fiction or nonfiction? Either way, I love the tale. Somerset Maugham dining alone with his notebook would be such an exquisite sight! I tried to imagine myself sitting in the dining room of the Raffles, stealing glances at Maugham, wondering what is in his notebook.
The Raffles has an impressive website. Certainly, should be a destination for those traveling to Singapore who can afford such opulence. Stunning place.
