So, so true, Francine! Immigrants are the hardest working people I know. I get so angry when people criticize immigrants for not speaking English well. Kind of hard to learn a new language when you work 14 hours a day with people who speak your old language, when you can only afford to live in neighborhoods with other people who barely speak English. Hard to learn English when you are barely literate in your native tongue. And, amazingly, it doesn’t matter because, even if you struggle to learn the language of your new homeland, your children will speak English, as will their children. So it always is.
