So tragically beautiful, Kate Holly-Clark. Your poem so perfectly describes the helplessness we feel in a world so close but so far away. What do we do with the anguish and heartbreak we feel for those we’ve never known? What action can we take to make it better or at least less horrible? We are made to react and fix and comfort and soothe but how is that possible in this world when what feels so near and personal is distant and unknown? I believe that we often struggle with depression because of this disconnect between what we feel and what we can do. Casseroles are powerful anti-depressants.
