Susan Christiana, my husband tried to defy age — it didn’t work. He was one of those people gifted by the gods with an athletic body. Up into his 50’s, he could play soccer for an hour. He ate and drank what he wanted and never gained weight. He smoked but had clear lungs. As he said: Getting old happened to other people, not me.
But, it did, eventually, come for him. In his late 60’s, his unhealthy diet and smoking caught up with him. He stopped smoking and changed his diet but still has various issues. However, he is in amazing shape considering his age and his health challenges.
I, on the other hand, suffered from back, neck, and leg problems since a childhood horse-back riding accident. My health has been generally okay but not my skeleton. In that aspect, old age started when I was nine! My early 20’s were the worst — one herniated disk after another. Add a life of desk work and it is amazing I can do as much as I do. We definitely have to adjust for age because it won’t adjust for us!
Ugh, I remember when my husband went through the Medicare maze trying to get set up and additional coverage. I am not to that point yet but will be grateful for the coverage. Right now, I pay $700 a month for health insurance!
