Susan, most people don’t realize Medicare doesn’t cover hearing aids, dental or glasses. Common sense says it should. My husband experienced “sudden deafness” in one ear. Woke up totally deaf in that ear one day. ENT says it is surprisingly common. Sometimes steroids help and some hearing is restored but they didn’t work for Ben. Because that ear hears nothing, hearing aids have to transmit what he can hear from the other ear (which is about 60%) to his deaf ear requiring a special kind of hearing aids. His audiologist tried to find a way to get the aids covered through Medicare because of the sudden deafness diagnosis but it didn’t fly.
