Susie, I am in the middle of reading Birdsong by Steven Lovatt and read Goshawk Summer by James Aldred last year. Both are British books about the natural world, particularly the world of birds, during the lockdown in the UK. Your piece echoes those books. All bring to mind how peaceful and clean life was in my city during our very short lockdown. (Florida was one of the first states to open up without regard for the growing number of Covid deaths.)
With all that said, I am deeply sad that we learned nothing from the experience - at least Americans didn't. We are back to being over-consuming, trash-throwing, gas-guzzling idiots. I had such hopes that we would embrace simplicity and nature.
